Spring is the perfect time for adding a touch of colour to your makeup. And this season there will be a lot of it, judging from the beauty trends that were featured during the global fashion weeks.

“We have seen so much colour backstage for SS18. That makes an exciting opportunity for us makeup artists, as we really get the chance to play around and be innovative”, says Michelle Webb, Key Artist for the leading backstage makeup team providers AOFMPro.

One of the main makeup trends that was spotted across all the four fashion capitals for Spring Summer 2018 was the coloured eyeliner. On the catwalks it was sometimes used in quite adventurous manners, but a coloured eyeliner is also an easy way for anyone to get started with a more colourful makeup.

“If a full on colourful eye is not your thing, then do your own take on this season’s trends and just add a small pop of colour with your eyeliner. An electric blue works perfectly with a red lip for instance”, Michelle explains.

The classic choice of eyeliner is probably the cat eye, which can however be quite unforgiving if you are even the slightest unsteady on the hand when applying it. An easier option, which still gives a lot of impact, is to wear your liner underneath the eye. Or put it in the waterline, for an edgy look.

“My advice when it comes to colourful makeup is to not be afraid of trying something new. Remember that any bright colour will work well with a nude makeup base”, says Michelle. This could be for instance a statement lip, an extra layer of blush, or why not a bold nail polish to start with.

“For me as a makeup artist, I love the use of colour. It inspires my creativity”, Michelle continues. Natural makeup, with flawless skin and a perfect lip, will always will be in trend and admittedly looks great on everyone. However, experimenting with colours is fun and does good for your soul, even on a small scale.  “There is a time for both styles and I can appreciate that”, Michelle concludes.

1. Smashbox Photo Edit Eye Shadow Trio, in On location

Smashbox recently launched their new handy Photo Edit eye shadow trios, which are available in a range of wearable and beautiful combinations. For a colourful spring look, I chose On Location, where a beach-inspired turquoise meets shades of sun and sand. Use the light sandy colour as a base, from lashline to brow bone. Press the gold colour onto the lids and finish off with applying turquoise, from the crease and outwards. Or use turquoise only, as a liner. Layer to intensify.

2. NARS Eye Paint, in Solomon Islands

A creamy eyeliner is an easy way to intensify your look, without going all in with a full eye makeup. Nars Eye Paint pots are versatile and highly pigmented, while also allowing for a precise and artistic application. The formula is weightless and fast-drying, with a long-lasting and saturated finish. Use the summery Solomon Islands shade for a bold cat eye-look, to create a statement. Or go easy on the colour and just apply it underneath your lower lashline.

3. 3ina The Color Mascara, in Blue

Colourful mascara is unusual and certainly makes a statement. At the same time, it can be used on its own, for adding just a small touch of colour to your natural look. Spanish 3ina are known for their colourful makeup products. The Color Mascara comes in a range of surprising shades, blue being one of the more easy-to-wear ones. A volumizing formula, which also gives great definition and is easy to layer.

4. Face Stockholm Blush, in Tonight

Rosy cheeks usually appear automatically during spring and summer. However, there is no harm in giving them some help on the way. The silky blush powders from Face Stockholm allow you to create definition, while also adding a healthy glow. Available in a vast range of lovely colours, which can be used on their own but also are highly blendable. One of my favourites for spring is the soft and corally Tonight. Presented in a practical compact case, including a mirror for quick application.

5. Yves Rocher Radiant Lip Pencil, in Orange Sanguine

One of the news from Yves Rocher this season is the launch of their lip pencils in three new red colours. Orange Sanguine is a modern and wearable shade, as it works well on many different skin tones. Easy to apply and can be layered to create more intensity – or layered with other lip products. A nourishing and agreeable formula, which among other contains shea and mango butters.

6. KIKO MILANO Free Soul Lipstick, in Keep Moving Coral

This spring, Kiko Milano are releasing the Free Soul-collection, which has been inspired by a fresh and colourful bohemian feel. One of my personal favourites from the range are the lipsticks, which have a flattering matte look, with high pigmentation and good coverage. A pleasant texture, which is easy to apply and gives a smooth finish. The packaging has been designed to be easy to grip, because of the ridges on the sides. In addition, it also features magnets on base and cap, for easy opening and closing.

7. OPI Lisbon Collection nail polish, in Sun, Sea and Sand in My Pants

The new OPI Lisbon Collection gives a nod to the Portuguese Capital’s unique blend of traditional heritage and striking modernism. Inspired by the lively streets of Lisbon, the collection features a range of vivid colours with influences from both architecture, nature and the city’s fashion forward street style. Bright yellow Sun, Sea and Sand in My Pants looks beautiful with a tan and is a fun way to colour-block with blue and coral shades. Great coverage and easy to apply, thanks to the precise brush.
